Root Canal Treatment

Root Canal Treatment is the most often misunderstood part of the practice of dentistry. A root canal is the exaggeration of many cocktail parties. The basic process is the successful filling of the hollow chamber inside of a tooth. The tooth has decay, a crack, a large old filling, or has been bumped. The inside of the tooth where the nerves and blood supply is located becomes infected. This infection, if untreated, grows and becomes abscessed. The treatment is to clean out the inside of the tooth using miniature files and instruments. The canal is then filled with a material to seal out new germs. Often a tooth treated with a root canal filling will require further treatment with a crown.
